Trimming means taking out dead and crossing wood, reducing weight on the long ends that catch wind, and opening the crown so light and air move through it — cut back to a growth point, not left as a stub. Palms get their own approach: skinning off old dead fronds and boots along the trunk and trimming the live crown, which is a different skill than trimming a broadleaf tree and not something to hand a homeowner with a ladder.

Stump grinding is its own step, not an afterthought — once a tree is down, the stump gets ground below grade so the spot can be planted over, paved over, or just walked across without a hazard sitting there. Good trim work looks understated when it's done: the tree or palm looks lighter and healthier, not butchered, and every bit of brush and wood goes out with us the same visit.

Price in writing

You get the number before anything starts, and it doesn't move unless the job changes.

Trim, skin or grind

The tree gets thinned and cut back to growth points, the palm gets skinned and trimmed, or the stump gets ground out — whichever the job calls for.

Haul and clear

Brush, fronds, wood chips and stump grindings all go out with us — the yard gets raked before we leave.

Common questions

Do you top trees to make them shorter?

No. Topping cuts the crown off at a height and what grows back is weakly attached, which makes the tree more dangerous in a few years, not less. If you want a tree smaller we reduce it properly instead and explain the difference.

Can you grind a stump without pulling out the roots?

Yes — grinding chews the stump down below grade so the surface is clear to plant, pave or walk over, without digging up the whole root system, which would tear up a lot more of the yard.

My palm's fronds are hanging dead all the way down the trunk — is that urgent?

It's worth getting looked at, especially near a hillside property under fire-safety rules — a skirt of dead fronds is exactly the kind of fuel those rules are written about, and it's not a job for a ladder from the ground.
